The weather is beginning to cool, the kids are back in school, and the leaves will begin to change colors soon, meaning that fall is upon us. This autumn, there are plenty of options for family fun in the Philadelphia area that don't require breaking the bank. Here are a few affordable options to entertain everyone in the family this fall.
Fall Favorites
There are some things that just scream fall, and there are a number of great options around the Philadelphia area to experience all of your fall favorites. Whether you are looking to pick pumpkins or apples, go on a hayride, or put your skills to the test by trying to go through a corn maze, there are some great reasonably priced options within about a 45-minute drive of the city. Some of these options include Shady Brook Farm, Merrymead Farm, Johnson's Corner Farm, Springdale Farms, and Terhune Orchards. Each place has its own unique lineup of fall offerings, making it worth visiting more than once this season.
Football
For sports fans out there, nothing says fall quite like football. With the average ticket price for an Eagles game in 2023 coming in at $308, enjoying gameday at home can be the way to go. This could include making some special snacks, getting everyone's favorite drinks, and inviting some friends over to enjoy the game.
If you're really craving to experience some football in-person this year but don't want to shell out for Eagles tickets, look no further than Philly's college football programs. You can see Temple University's football team play their home games right at Lincoln Financial Field for around $20 a ticket. That's Division I college football right in the same stadium as the Birds for a fraction of the price. Other Division I programs in the area include Penn and Villanova, who both offer tickets as low as $5.
Fall Foliage
If you want to take in the beautiful colors of fall, there are a number of parks and trails in and around the city you can go to see the foliage. Fairmount Park and the Schuylkill River Trail both offer miles of trails that you can walk, run or bike through to soak in all the sights of the season. If you want to see the leaves' new colors while also having some additional fun options for the family, you can head to Franklin Square where there is also a fountain show, mini-golf course, carousel, and more.
Arts and Crafts
Those that are looking for something to do right at home with the kids can do some fall-themed arts and crafts. You can get the fall leaves involved and make some finger leaf puppets, leaf garland or a handprint leaf turkey. If you went to a pumpkin patch, you could also use your pumpkins for pumpkin carving or painting. If you don't have any leaves or pumpkins handy, you could make scarecrow puppets out of brown paper bags or popsicle stick scarecrows. There's a number of ways to get creative with fall-themed arts and crafts suitable for all ages.
